The name Catherine Hinds has been synonymous with skin care for over four decades. As Boston’s original esthetician and a pioneer in the field of esthetics, Catherine was instrumental in positioning the American Esthetician as a primary force in skin care. Catherine was born a dreamer, with the sort of ambition that allowed her to make those dreams destiny for over 50 years as a serial entrepreneur. As such, being a single mother in the sixties did not deter her from her mission to bring professional skincare to the United States. She began her career by establishing a chain of skin care salons in Boston and New York in the late sixties and in 1979 she founded the Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics. In 1983, she founded Catherine Hinds Company with the purpose of providing advanced skincare products, equipment, and seminars to the professional esthetician.
Nationally recognized for her work, Ms. Hinds received numerous honors within her career including the New England Women’s Business Owners, Woman of the Year Award, American salon Owner’s Esthetician of the Year Award, and the prestigious Dermascope Magazine Legend Award. However, her greatest pride was in the fact that she encouraged and paved the way for countless men and women to build careers in the Esthetics industry. She was an influencer before the age of ‘influencers.’ In a word, Catherine was an icon, and it is with the kind of unwavering ‘joie de vivre’ only Catherine could exude that we say, with certainty, an icon is what she will forever remain to us all.
